Marine Cpl. Johnathan Taylor, 23, of Sugarmill Woods, was killed on Feb. 22 2011 when a nearby improvised-explosive device detonated while Taylor’s unit was on foot patrol in Helmand province, Afghanistan.
Taylor was an infantryman assigned to 2nd Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, N.C. His parents, Mark and Deborah, live in Sugarmill Woods, and he also leaves behind brothers Christopher and Mark Jr.
Corporal Taylor's body arrived by air on March 3, 2011 at Hernando County Airport south of Brooksville. Waiting for him there were Hernando and Citrus County law enforcement officers, Taylor's family members, an honor guard and military personnel.
The body was escorted north on U.S. Highway 41, through Brooksville and up into Citrus County. The procession passed through downtown Inverness, then headed west on State Road 44, through Lecanto and then to Wilder's Funeral Home in Homosassa at 4890 S. Suncoast Blvd. in Homosassa.
Cpl. Taylor’s body will remain there until Saturday, March 5th 2011 when the Sheriff’s Office once again will escort the procession to the Lecanto school complex, where the fallen officer’s public memorial service is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. at Lecanto High School’s (his alma mater) football stadium. Sheriff’s Office officials expect to depart from the funeral home at 9 a.m.The public is invited to come out in respect of Cpl. Taylor’s supreme sacrifice and to welcome him home. Cpl. Taylor will be buried in the Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Va. http://www.citrusdaily.com
